Cultural Fest (27/4/12)

The new academic year began on the 2nd of April with a lot of enthusiasm, new resolutions and much anticipation. Yet another academic year with several curricular and co-curricular activities planned started and new students joined the family of Orchids. The learners got their new books, the course was introduced, classes started and a month’s syllabus was completed. Now was the time for breaking for Summer Vacation - a time for travel, a time for rest and a time for proper planning with a few assignments completed. But the Break needs a Bang! That was exactly what ‘The Cultural Fest’ lent the occasion. More than a week was spent in discussions on the programme to be presented and the ways to present it well. Each class squeezed their practice in the limited time available. The ‘Fest’ on April 27 started with ‘Vinayaka Sthuthi’ by the students of Classical Dance and was followed by classwise performance. Several aspects like best behaviour, best display boards and the conduct of assemblies along with the day’s participation, were taken into consideration to select the Best classes and they received their trophies from the Principal of Orchids, Mrs. Mona Mehdi. A spectacle of delightful dances and music ended the session and announced the vacation with a bang.

Word Building Competition (20/4/2012)

Word-building is the process of constructing an imaginary world. It is a key to reading, writing and verbal expressions. It also helps in improving analytical and critical thinking. A student’s vocabulary skills can be measured in terms of building receptive vocabulary words (i.e. understanding) and their expressive vocabulary words. Building vocabulary skills improves reading comprehension and reading fluency.
In order to develop more reading and thinking skills in our students, Word-building competition was conducted on 20th April, 2012 for primary wing (classes 1-5).All the students participated with great enthusiasm and they were able to write many words from one single word. This even helped the students to develop their writing skill and imaginative skill…and most of them enjoyed the word-building competition.

Indian National Army Day (18/4/2012)

Indian National Army Day was observed in the school on April 18. Students of class VIII dressed up like Subhash Chandra Bose and loudly proclaimed his words ‘Give me blood, I will give you freedom’.

INA is the manifestation of Subhash Chandra Bose’s transformation from a Gandhian freedom fighter to an armed revolutionary challenging the might of the British Empire. The INA was also known as the Azad Hind Fauj. It had a combat strength of 40,000 troops. At a rally in Burma, S.C.Bose famously proclaimed, ‘Give me blood and I shall give you freedom’. His great oratory skills always inspire the troops of INA during their fight for freedom.
